Male fertility

A step toward clarity

Male fertility plays a vital role in conception, and understanding it is the first step for couples experiencing difficulties. Factors such as low sperm production, blockages, or hormonal imbalances may affect reproductive health.

We conduct thorough assessments to identify any concerns and create customised treatment plans. Take the first step today toward achieving your dream of starting a family.

What Can Affect Fertility?

A man’s ability to conceive can be affected by various factors such as difficulties in sperm production, blockages within the reproductive system, hormonal imbalances, or sexual health challenges. Understanding these underlying issues is essential, as it helps in taking the right steps toward improving fertility and moving closer to the goal of parenthood.

Recognising these factors early helps in making informed choices and moving forward with confidence. To discover the best treatment options tailored to you, book an appointment with our experts today.

These may arise due to infections, undescended testes at birth, genetic conditions, testicular torsion (twisting of the testis), varicocele (enlarged veins in the testes), or damage caused by medicines, chemicals, or radiation.

Blockages can result from infections, absence of the vas deferens, accessory gland issues, or a previous vasectomy.

Conditions such as premature ejaculation, failure to ejaculate, erectile dysfunction, spinal cord injuries, or nerve damage can affect fertility.

Pituitary tumours, other gland-related issues, or misuse of anabolic (androgenic) steroids may lead to hormonal imbalances that impact sperm production.

This may occur following infections or injuries in the epididymis, after a vasectomy, or sometimes without a clear cause.

Therapies such as chemotherapy and radiotherapy can negatively affect sperm production, either temporarily or permanently. Men undergoing treatment for cancer or other serious conditions may benefit from fertility preservation options to protect their future reproductive potential.

Safeguarding Your Fertility

Preservation options for the future

We offer complimentary fertility preservation services for men with serious health conditions that could affect their fertility. This includes those preparing for or recovering from treatments such as chemotherapy or radiotherapy. You can review our Fertility Preservation (Male) referral form or contact us directly for more information on this important service.

For patients undergoing cancer treatment

Certain cancer therapies, including chemotherapy and radiation, can significantly affect sperm quality and production. This impact may be temporary or permanent, depending on the type and dose of treatment received. Unfortunately, it is often difficult to predict how an individual’s fertility will respond.

Sperm freezing (cryopreservation)

Collecting and freezing sperm prior to treatment provides a safeguard for the future. If fertility is reduced after treatment, stored sperm can still offer the chance to father a child. In cases where sperm production recovers naturally, the preserved samples may not be needed. Frozen sperm can remain viable for many years, ensuring long-term fertility options.
